Charles Osgood ends 22 years as host of “Sunday Morning”

After 22 years as anchor of CBS “Sunday Morning”, Charles Osgood has announced his retirement. His final appearance will be on September 25, 2016 at which time his 45-year career at CBS Television Network will be celebrated.

The retirement is not completely forever as he will be making some appearances on the “Sunday Morning” show. He will also continue as the anchor of “The Osgood Files” a commentary radio broadcast on CBS Radio Network.

“Some of you may have heard rumors lately that I won’t be hosting these ‘Sunday Morning’ broadcasts very much longer. Well, I’m here to tell you that the rumors are true,” Osgood told viewers last month during the broadcast.  “For years now people -- even friends and family -- have been asking me why I keep doing this considering my age. I am pushing 84. It’s just that it’s been a joy doing it!  Who wouldn’t want to be the one who gets to introduce these terrific storytellers and the producers and writers and others who put this wonderful show together?”

He went on to thank the producers and writers, “I want to thank all of them and all you in our still-growing audience, for your support and encouragement. It’s been a great run, but after nearly 50 years at CBS -- including the last 22 years here on ‘Sunday Morning’ -- the time has come: and a date is set for me to do my farewell ‘Sunday Morning.’”

This special edition of “Sunday Morning” will last 90 minutes and will highlight the broadcaster’s career. The celebrations will include interviews, surprise guests, wishes from famous people, and special performances.

Osgood, born in New York, has been the anchor of “Sunday Morning” since 1994 and has been working with CBS News for 45 years.

Rand Morrison, executive producer of “Sunday Morning, has said.” “Working with him truly has been an honor, a privilege and a joy. We look forward to paying tribute to him and his legendary career in September -- and, of course, seeing him on the radio!”
